Hell on Wheels: A Landscape Project

Our continuing series of blogs about creativity in this time of quarantine and change has inspired me to showcase an outdoor landscaping project. Gardening enthusiast Shelly (who also happens to be my boyfriends’s amazing Mom), resides in Plain Washington and I had the honor to assist her in a super creative landscaping project. And it’s inspiration? The Netflix series Hell on Wheels, a show we have been binge watching while in quarantine.

2 layers of wooden platforms were built per tent in order to add stability. The outdoor weather-proof tents were then set up and tied down.

2 handmade metal sculpture masks were hammered into the front entrance and a 150 year old wagon wheel was placed in the middle of the 2 tents & pathway.

Flowers were planted, and the scene was created! We wanted the wagon to look like it had crashed, spilling with flowers, beer growlers, and fake apples.

A path was laid out with playground bark and then lined with river rocks.

Site manager Kingston was the first to approve the finished product.

And here is Beau waiting to welcome our first guest :)
