Thank you Mary Quant

My days of wearing a mini skirt may have run its course but I’m having a moment of appreciation for Mary. In the late 1950s it was all about the midi skirt and Mary blew that right out of the water. Her first boutique opened in 1960 in London and it revolutionized not only fashion but King’s Road as well. It went from a quiet working class neighborhood to the coolest street in London. Two very different stores brought her designs to America, Henri Bendel and JC Penny. Talk about high/low. Now every woman could get a mini. Quant collaborated with Vidal Sassoon and her signature short bob became another sensation and it put Sassoon on the map as well. Mary was anointed by the Queen in 2015 and she became Dame Mary Quant. Rightly so, long live the mini!
